When I first heard about the DYMO DiscPainter, I thought it was going to be another cheesy disc printer that would either take forever to print, would fall short on the quality I want, or would involve a cumbersome tricky tray. So you can assume my enthusiasm about taking this for a test spin. But I agreed to give it a try, and I am glad that I did.
Not Your Ordinary Label Printer
The printer has a small footprint thanks to its patented RadialPrint™ Technology which actually prints your disc as they SPIN. Rather than printing on an X/Y axis, DiscPainter prints in the circular motion of the disc. Plus, it has a clear cover so you can see it in action, click here to see the promo video of the printer in action: http://global.dymo.com/enUS/DiscPainterVideo/Video.html.
The DiscPainter is fast and easy to install and I appreciate the fact that it works with both Mac and PC via USB. It is so simple to use – put your disc inside, close the lid and click print.
Discus for DYMO Software Overview The printer works with leading creative applications but you can also take advantage of its included Discus for DYMO design software which comes with a wide range of pre-made canvases, photo collage tools and text tools.
A quick overview of the Dymo DiscPainter Software
Quality and Speed
Unlike any other disc printing, you don’t have to compromise. You get quality and speed with dedicated disc printing and patented technology. What most impressed me with this printer was the speed and the end result. For my first test I used the provided glossy white cd-r that was included in the package. I just happened to have a cd image of Metallica's new Death Magnetic album on my pc so that's what I loaded up in the software to print. After centering the image I hit the print button and off it went. About 30 seconds later the disc was done and I had what I thought was a master pressing of the disc from the way it looked. All I can say is that you need to see the quality to believe it.
My New Favorite Device
It takes quite a bit to impress me to the point where I actually want to stop everything I'm doing just to use a new gadget, especially a printer. DiscPainter prints on any inkjet printable CD or DVD (inkjet discs have a special coating that absorbs the ink). The quality is just superb. If you are looking for a professional quality, do-it-yourself disc labeler then this is the device for you.
Conclusion Stop messing around with marker scribbles and tricky trays and just use the DYMO DiscPainter for your disc printing needs.
