Review of Creator 2010:
First a Quick Overview:
Creator 2010 from Roxio's best media software to date. If you are familar with previous version of Easy Media Creator then you know what a robust set of tools it offers. This version add the following:
- A new interface that puts the tools you use the most where you need them and offers tips to help you start a project should you require that.
- Now you can turn your AVCHD video that you captured from a HD Camcorder and turn it into a (HD) DVD disc. Yes you can actually create a HD movie and burn it to a standard DVD for playback on a Blu Ray player. This is unheard of but they found a way and the result is brilliant HD.
- If you have Audio Books on CD then you can easily rip them for export to your ipod or other portable player.
- Now you can create online slideshows using your photos, videos, or music. The best part with this is that you can securely share this with friends and family on a secure web page.

The Ultimate DVD Suite:
Roxio Creator 2010, like Nero 9, is a suite of tools to help you get the most from your music, photo and video files. With it you can organise and edit your media files and burn the results to disc or upload them to media-sharing sites such as YouTube.
Because of all of the components found in Creator 2009 Roxio has come up with a slick looking interface to help navigating the software a breeze. The main screen uses a tabbed interface which organizes the applications by project type: data, movies, music, photos and online. There is also a Home tab which provides direct access to your six most frequently used Creator tools.
The data tab provides basic but easy-to-use file and system backup routines, as well as straightforward data disc burning. The photo tab has a good range of options for importing, editing and organising your photos into albums. The editing tools make it easy to improve your photos without the need for any prior photo-editing experience, and you can enhance, convert or rename multiple photos in one go using the batch tool - a very useful time saver. However, Google's free Picasa software (from http://picasa.google.com) has a very similar range of features.

You can put together videos and slideshows quickly using CineMagic, or produce something more complex with
VideoWave. Both approaches are straightforward and produce good-looking results. However, they don't significantly improve on Microsoft's Windows Movie Maker, which comes with Windows XP Home and Vista Home Premium. There are plenty of options for authoring DVDs though, including authoring HD video to standard DVDs.
Roxio Creator lets users with Blu-ray writers create and burn Blu-ray discs, complete with HD menus and chapter headings. Unlike Movie Maker, it supports the increasingly popular AVCHD format. Another plus is the inclusion of SonicFire Pro, an excellent tool for generating stirring soundtracks for your movies.
The Audio tab lets you rip and burn audio CDs, and includes tools for batch conversion and transfer, as well as tag editing. You can also convert LPs and audio cassettes into digital audio. Simply hook up your tape or record player to your PC's audio line-in and start recording. The software slices the incoming signal into individual tracks and can remove pops and crackles. For more comprehensive and fine-tuned audio cleaning, you can use the included BIAS SoundSoap 2.1. You can then burn the results to CD or keep them in your PC's music library.
Roxio includes an all-encompassing media browser for managing your photos, videos and music. Combining these in a single interface may sound like a good idea, but in practice it's not very useful. Between them, free applications such as iTunes, Windows Media Player and Picasa do a decent job of managing these files.
Roxio Creator 2009 has a host of potentially useful tools. We marginally prefer it to Nero 9, although that suite includes impressive TV-viewing support. If you'll use many of its features, Creator 2009 is a good deal, but for simple disc burning and DVD authoring you should try basic software first such as DeepBurner.
